Sykesville, Maryland — April 1, 2008 — Maryland author Fred Glueckstein, author of The ’27 Yankees, will have his newest sports non-fiction book, Mickey Mantle: Rookie in Pinstripes, available for ordering in bookstores and online in May 2008. The book is an inspiring story for Young Adults, as well as adults, on one of America’s most legendary and beloved baseball stars-Mickey Mantle.

Raised during the Depression, Mickey learned how to catch, hit, and field the ball from his father, Elvin. In high school, Mickey suffered a football injury that revealed a serious bone disorder. He wondered if he would ever play baseball again. But with the support and love of his father, he overcame his affliction and signed with the New York Yankees in 1949.

A moving story of Mickey’s early years in baseball, from his difficult rookie season to his triumphant return in 1951, Mickey Mantle: Rookie in Pinstripes, portrays the everlasting bond between father and son and the making of one of baseball greatest legends.

About the Author
Fred Glueckstein attended Queens College of the City University of New York and New York University. In addition to baseball, he has written extensively about horses. Fred has been published in such magazines as The Chronicle of the Horse, Horses in Art, Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred, Equestrian, ARMY magazine, Preakness Souvenir Magazine, and Finest Hour, the official publication of the Churchill Centre and International Societies.
